We are part of the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization, responsible for all in market Windows operating systems, and we deliver updates to every Windows-based device in the world to protect users and enable them to be productive. While Security remains our primary focus, we also enable our commercial and enterprise customers by enabling new device support, addressing reliability and upgrade blocking issues. Our work is critical for the Windows family of devices PCs, SurfaceHub, HoloLens, Azure and more. We are an agile team and ship twice every month, impacting over a billion Windows devices in the ecosystem.
We are looking for a highly motivated Release Manager to help us in this mission. In this role, you’ll be driving key decision-making meetings to define scope of each release. You will work with multiple teams across the organization to monitor and track release activities, establish, and manage schedules, manage risk, and open issues to ensure release remains on track. You’ll work closely with the IDC engineering team to establish or improve processes for efficiency and guide teams to be successful. You’ll collaborate with the global release team for “follow the sun” model to ensure release is always in safe hands. You will be required to interact across the division, understand and communicate requirements and information efficiently and effectively, present to senior leadership, and develop relationships that lead to efficient problem solving. The ability to track multiple release activities at scale simultaneously will be key.

Responsibilities
- Release planning and management:
- Own one or more Windows products for E2E monthly servicing release.
- Always stay on top of the release lifecycle spanning across multiple stages of code check-in, build, packaging, testing, sign offs, and deployment as per the schedule.
- Anticipate, manage, and mitigate risks and resolve release impacting issues related to scope, schedule, and quality. Take the required action to ensure release is always on track.
- Know, understand, and follow established complex release processes.
- Collaborate with the Redmond release management team for “Follow the sun” model to provide 24x7 release coverage for all Windows products.
- Own and drive daily IDC shiproom meeting with the Leadership Team, Managers, and ICs to make critical scope, schedule decision
- Provide input, flag risks to leadership team to make critical decision for release scope.
- Interpret release to present health risks, and action items for multiple ongoing releases.
- Communication
- Own and drive business critical meetings across teams, to manage the scope, schedule, and risks for the releases. Be the gatekeeper for release quality.
- Communicate release schedules, status, and issues to all stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment across teams.
- Process Optimization
- Consistently identify opportunities to improve release processes to enhance efficiency and reduce toil.
- Work with engineering and program management teams for process improvement, and automation.
- Drive accountability
- Ensure process adherence by the engineering teams and guide them for success
- Remove ambiguity and define solutions that are well understood and executed across the team
Qualifications
- 5+ years of program/project management experience
- Experience in handling complex releases at planet scale
- Practical knowledge of software lifecycle, agile methodology, and release pipeline
- Expertise in leveraging Azure DevOps (ADO) and working knowledge of PowerBI
- Ability to simplify and solve a complex / ambiguous problem
- Excellent collaboration and influencing skills to drive alignment across teams
