Brief on the Organization:

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is working towards building a healthier India. It is helping to address the limited institutional and systems capacity in India by strengthening education and training, advancing research and technology and facilitating policy and practice in the area of Public Health. PHFI is headquartered in New Delhi with national presence through its constituent units of regional Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) and Centers of Applied Research in core public health themes. The Foundation, established in 2006 as a public private initiative, is governed by an independent board comprising of senior government officials, eminent Indian and International academic and leaders, civil society representatives and corporate leaders.

About IIPH-Bengaluru:

Under the aegis of PHFI are academic institutions of higher learning known as Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH), which provide interdisciplinary and health system related education and relevant research in prioritised areas of public health, importantly non-communicable diseases (NCDs). IIPH’s Bengaluru’s expertise lies in life course epidemiology, longitudinal studies on the effect of maternal diabetes on offspring and other epidemiological studies on NCDs. IIPH Bengaluru, is particularly, well-known for carrying out some of the most up to date research in NCDs in Karnataka state. We have been selected by the Karnataka Evaluation Authority as a consultant organization and partner with the National Corporate Social (CSR) Responsibility Hub. IIPH has pioneered national and international studies, in collaboration with Harvard University, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science and Technology and India Alliance.

Project Brief:

Public Health Foundation of India, Indian Institute of Public Health Bengaluru is part of the secondary data analysis of the pooled database study initiated by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), along with several other pregnancy cohort studies in India. IIPH Bangalore conducted a cohort study titled Maternal antecedents of adiposity and studying the transgenerational role of hyperglycemia and insulin (MAASTHI) and in this current project, the MAASTHI cohort study data set focusing on the study objectives related to stillbirth will be considered in the pooled database analysis.

The main objective is to collate individual datasets and examine the determinants, risk factors, and potential impactful interventions to develop national guidelines and policies for reducing preventable stillbirths and neonatal mortality, to prioritize the use of emerging evidence from published studies and clinical trials as well as identify gaps to inform prospective studies.

Specific objectives are a. assess the stillbirth rate across different geographical regions of India and trends over the past decades, b. determine modifiable risk factors of stillbirth, which upon intervention can potentially prevent stillbirth, c. to develop a risk stratification framework using clinical, ultrasound, and biological predictors that can identify pregnant women at risk of stillbirth. Secondary data analysis of the pooled database will support understanding the risk factors, causes, and determinants of stillbirths in India and build evidence for the prevention of stillbirths in India.

Deliverables:
  • Collect, clean, and organize data from studies in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collaborate with research teams to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Conduct statistical analyses using appropriate methods to address research questions and objectives.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis, inferential statistics, and regression modeling as needed.
  • Utilize statistical software (e.g., R) to implement statistical analyses and produce meaningful visualizations.
  • Develop and maintain code scripts for data manipulation and statistical procedures.
  • Assist in preparing statistical reports, summaries, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the interpretation of statistical results and the development of research publications.
  • Participate in quality control processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of statistical analyses.
  • Review and validate statistical outputs.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including epidemiologists, researchers, and data scientists, to support research initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to understand project requirements and objectives.
Qualification:
  • MSc Biostatistics.
Experience:
  • One year of relevant work experience.
  • Strong analytical and observational abilities
  • Technical and IT skills
  • Numerical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • The ability to problem-solve and think logically
  • Knowledge of statistical methods
  • Knowledge of SPSS or R statistical software.
