Job description

MDA is seeking a senior data analyst who is keen to understand, model and define large new data sets. The new team member will be skilled in data analysis, modeling, project management, and consumer support. They will partner with technology to ensure that data is cleanly loaded, linked to JPM identifiers, health checked and distributed in fashions that will delight consumers who range from Researchers seeking direct database access, to Application developers seeking bulk history and daily deltas, to Analysts seeking Python libraries. They will become an SME in MDA and adjacent data sets. They will cheerfully guide consumers to data that is fit to purpose, wrangle with data providers and maintain project plans and scorecards to ensure transparency with MDA consumers and partners. 


The individual in this Data Analyst / Project Manager role will have end-to-end responsibility for leading projects to on-board new data sets: from user requirements analysis and expectations management through data profiling, modeling, definitions, health checks, testing, product delivery and consumer support.  This role includes responsibility for integrating MDA data definitions into firm-wide repositories, adhering to firm-wide standards, and updating project plans and data governance reports.


Key Responsibilities


  • End-to-end responsibility for on-boarding new data sets
  • Run SQL queries to profile data to identify key relationships and data health issues 
  • Work with vendors to understand data and resolve issues
  • Model data relationships including with data in other AWM data repositories for instrument, price, index, issuer, party, and reference data
  • Define data attributes for promotion through AWM data governance
  • Partner with technology to establish data loads and monitoring
  • Test data onboarded by Tech and facilitate consumer testing
  • Partner with consumers to identify consumer critical data health checks 
  • Escalate issues to vendors, tech or consumers and manage issue resolution 
  • Engage and train Operations partners
  • Maintain project plans and scorecards
  • Generate monthly data governance reports
  • Support consumer data access and understanding

As candidate capabilities grow, the role will extend to: 


  • Partner with consumers to define data architecture and solutions
  • Evaluate vendor data for suitability to meet business requirements
  • Run cross-vendor data normalization to support data discovery 
  • Lead consumer forums to share knowledge and priorities
  • Manage governance forums to deliver complex programs

Qualifications 


Industry Knowledge


  • 7 or more years of experience in Technology, Consulting or Finance industries
  • Solid understanding of the financial service businesses, products, and processes
  • Familiarity with ESG, Corporate, Funds or Instrument Analytics is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with data from Morningstar, Bloomberg, FactSet, MSCI, or Sustainalytics is preferred 

Functional Skills 


  • 5 or more years of experience managing complex projects across business lines 
  • Superior analytical skills: Quickly defines and deconstructs problems. Identifies patterns. Identifies root causes. Proposes multiple solution paths 
  • Expertise in analyzing data using SQL, Excel 
  • Proactive risk identification and management
  • Superior organizational and Project management skills 
  • Skilled at preparing and presenting plans, status, and topics for decision in PowerPoint
  • Experience performing four or more of the following: large scale data analysis, data profiling, data modeling, functional specifications, process flow mapping, and/or data governance
