PAYROLL MANAGER
Job Summary:
The Payroll Manager plays a critical role in oversight for all aspects of payroll processing for a growing multi-state/multi-province with 1,400+ employee base. The position is responsible for the preparation, audit, documentation, and oversight of payroll, and ensures that all processes are compliant with federal, state, and local agencies. You must be methodical and analytical in administering payroll duties, use your deep knowledge of regulations. This role will supervise the payroll team and support the HR Operations function. The right candidate will bring deep payroll and tax knowledge and guide the business through a period of growth from a payroll delivery standpoint.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overseeing payroll operations including processing, garnishments, deductions, taxes, and third party payments.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all payroll taxes, garnishments, and required reporting
- Own Workday Payroll module and troubleshoot all payroll issues with internal HRIS team and external Workday support vendor.
- Manage and mentor payroll lead.
- Advises and takes action on setup of new entities and expansion into new locations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws and internal policies.
- Respond to audit requests and manage payroll tax audits.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports by fully leveraging reporting capabilities.
- Research and resolve payroll issues with vendors and/or employees in a timely manner.
- Identify opportunities to drive consistency in payroll across entities.
- Ensure payroll documentation is updated and accurate as well as team SLAs
- Provide support across the HR Operations team in various capacities such as benefits, HR compliance and reporting.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and Finance teams.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Strong payroll and tax expertise
- CPM or CPP
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Outstanding communication skills (written and oral)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proactively suggest process improvements
- Experience in high growth companies and comfort working on a fast-paced team with changing priorities.
- Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
