The focus of the role
As a Software Engineering - Chapter Lead (Automation Testing & Release Engineering), your role is two-fold where you combine your strong expertise in Software Engineering with people leadership. Through your passion for leadership you connect, engage, and develop your chapter members so they deliver value aligned to Telstra’s strategic roadmap.
Through your initiative work, you act as a catalyst for the enterprise. You bring experience in the Software Engineering technical domain and work with multiple stakeholders to understand business needs, and help shape our Software Engineering strategy, solutions, and capability to ensure we continuously deliver value to our customers.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities are the following but not limited to:
Chapter Leadership: As a Chapter Lead, you combine your passion for building individual and team capability with your technical expertise to do the following:
  • Modelling a culture of collaboration and continuous learning to support development of domain and interpersonal capability within the Chapter.
  • Coaching and developing chapter members within Software Engineering to enable them to deliver high quality and secure software solutions, providing support and feedback along the way.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships within teams that enable a high performing team culture aligned to living our values.
  • Providing clarity on performance, behavioural goals, and expectations to your chapter team to ensure that they can contribute to both mission and chapter activity.
  • Actively maintaining a talent pipeline for the chapter to ensure that workforce strategy objectives are achieved.
Initiative Allocation: When working as a member of an initiative in Automation ,Testing and Release Engineering Team, you bring strong expertise and a breadth of experience in Test Automation to:
  • Lead the build, validate and maintenance of multiple complex software application technologies and their interaction with Telstra processes and systems.
  • Ensure functional business requirements and epics are understood and translated into a test plan/ automation strategy that aligns to the program’s quality goals and expectations.
  • Foster quality and consistency in the Epics or program of work delivered by the teams within your Chapter.
  • Continuously develop your own expertise and knowledge around latest trends in software testing to ensure you bring the latest thinking to your role and help to empower others in your Chapter with that knowledge.
  • Significantly contribute to continuous improvement initiatives of our systems and processes, to help define ‘best practice’ and testing standards to deliver outcomes with improved quality (e.g., increase in productivity, customer experience and/or profitability)
About you
  • You have at least 10 years of experience in software engineering as a Leader in Testing and automation.
  • Proven hands-on experience in developing automation framework from scratch for digital applications /mobile native applications and for API using open-source technologies.
  • People leadership experience demonstrating the ability to drive capability uplift, performance improvement, engagement, and career development.
  • Proven practical experience in quality engineering, leading large scale software testing being part of enterprise quality function, designing automation first strategy in test design, planning, execution covering functional & Non-functional testing, also other supporting activities such as test environments, service virtualization, test data & infrastructure provisioning/management.
  • Experience implementing enterprise scale test automation or similar technical initiatives to elevate software testing practice in the form of quality, productivity, usability & experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives at the same time with an ability to effectively context switch.
  • Demonstrated delivery of complex projects, and well versed in scaled agile practices in software engineering.
  • Ability to lead, encourage and uplift people technical skill and support them to work in different initiatives across the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to credibly engage with senior strategic stakeholders (both internal and external) and work within a complex, matrix and global environment.
  • Adept understanding of agile methodologies and experience in working in an agile environment.
  • Be able to communicate with impact and influence as well as drive momentum and change.
  • You are a role model in continuous learning and improvement, maintaining and developing your own expertise and knowledge to ensure you bring the latest to the role and helping to empower others with that knowledge.
