Job Description

The Service Supply Chain Planner plays a key role in supporting the Service business achieve high first-time fix and customer service levels, by ensuring spares and consumables inventory are maintain at the optimum level to support the sales to distributor and repair of Smiths Detection products at customer locations.


Duties & Responsibilities

What you'll do -

  • Analyse product installed base to assess the optimum position for inventory across the Service SC network.
  • Use multiple analytical demand and supply planning techniques to maintain inventory availability levels across EU DC above 95%
  • Work closely with program/sales/service department to support short to mid-term business needs.
  • Develop stocking and distribution strategy for sales and service requirements.
  • Develop and review forecast by manual excel spreadsheet as well as Advance Planning Software.
  • Ensure all MRP and DRP data parameters are correctly set and maintained.
  • Perform system setup in SAP, APS (Advance Planning), WMS (Warehouse Management), SMS (Service Management)
  • Develop work processes for spares part distribution.
  • Work with Supply Chain team to implement logistics solutions for aftermarket business.
  • Work closely with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of materials. Pro-actively working with vendors to resolve any potential delay in material shipment.
  • Report monthly performance and perform deep dive analysis on root cause and corrective action.
  • Provide coaching to other stakeholders’ staff on spares distribution workflow and processes.
  • Comply to site and global Supply Chain and inventory metrics
  • Supporting business improvement program such as Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, Lean etc
  • Complying with and promoting all relevant legal requirements & Smiths policies and procedures, including business ethics, data protection and health & safety

The Individual

What you'll definitely need -

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Required: 4 years + in a Supply Chain role
  • Required: Demonstrable proficiency in MS Office suite, particularly Word and Excel. Related working experience in specialising in Purchasing / Inventory / Demand Planning
  • Required: Highly developed analytical and mathematical skills. Strong verbal and written communication. Collaborative problem solving skills. Ability to work under pressure and successfully manage multiple responsibilities. Experience in an MRP system environment (SAP preferred). Inventory management skills including cost savings, inventory reduction and inventory best practice.
  • Desirable: A professional Supply Chain qualification, e.g. CSCP / APICS. SAP business systems trained.
  • Directly responsible for planning ~£2M of inventory across EMEA DC
  • Metrics accountability:
    • Stock Availability
    • Line Fill Rate
    • Overdue Orders
    • Order cycle time
    • Inventory Turnover
  • Partner closely with the EU Regional Service Manager(s) and Sales managers.
  • Partner and build strong relationships with vendors and internal supply factories
  • Partner closely with sites Service admin and Supply Chain resources.
