Overview:
The Senior UX Writer is responsible for shaping user experience with engaging and creative content. Ideally, the writer aims to connect users to the product or service. The UX writer is responsible not only for writing copy in a grammatically appropriate way, but also for making a connection between the user and the content. Users want content to solve their problems, to simplify their lives. They want content to work together with a whole product or service in a context of a whole content structure.

The UX writer:
  • Connects users’ knowledge and experience with interactive products.
  • Collaborates across multiple project teams and disciplines but are expected to drive their workload independently.
  • Searches for innovative ways to integrate copy with the product to engage the user.
  • Has mastery of the English language and technical writing concepts/techniques.
  • Has a solid knowledge of product design and UX.
Responsibilities:

  • Understands product design and how it relates to PowerSchool business strategies.
  • Creates copy to connect users with our products as part of the UI and workflows, as well as within traditional information products, so users can complete the task at hand.
  • Writes messaging that is clear, concise, and improves the end to end experience for our users by focusing on the context of the user.
  • Designs solutions for complex UX writing challenges within the product and supporting content such as information visualizations and videos.
  • Initiates user and audience research as part of the UCD (User-Cantered Design) process.
  • Focuses on the details to make sure the language of our products is accurate and easily understood.
  • Uses wordsmithing skills to cut words and simplify language
  • Advocates for the user throughout the development process.
  • Partners with the Product Owner to ensure all content updates are accurate and meets deliverable deadlines, managing deadlines for team members.
  • Vets content for internationalization and accessibility as appropriate.
  • Drives alignment for product language that reflects the PowerSchool voice and brand by developing voice and style guidelines and content strategies.
  • Writes clear, concise, and helpful copy.
  • Advocates for good UX design and copy throughout the organization.
  • Mentors others about the craft of UX writing and user design.
  • Mentor junior members to execute on UX writing initiatives, providing detailed feedback and support.
Qualifications:
To be considered for and to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience of 5+ years’ writing copy for public consumption (such as journalism, curriculum development, training, online knowledgebase articles, help systems, and so on).
  • Fully fluent in written and conversational English.
  • A portfolio of relevant work samples with a UX focus; including problems you helped solve for, your contributions, and impact to the customer.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Working knowledge of the Atlassian software suite (JIRA and Confluence focus) or another wiki-based content system.
  • Working knowledge of K-12 education and business processes
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Understanding of and experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly-focused, team environment.
  • Self-starter and with demonstrated initiative Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
