Job Description:
This role includes activities such as maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of optical network infrastructure. As an Optical NOC Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of our optical network by utilizing your expertise in optical technology, advanced fiber troubleshooting, and OTDR testing. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to diagnose and resolve network issues promptly, optimize network performance, and contribute to the continuous improvement of optical network systems
Responsibilities:
- Perform troubleshooting activities regarding IRM-B-ECH1 (Integrated Raman Module) failures post fiber events when there is significant span loss.
- Proactive network monitoring of primary and redundant spans
- Integrate with operations group, tools and processes
- Leads troubleshooting effort post fiber events/activities, includes maintenance windows
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting of fiber optic links and optical network elements to identify and resolve network issues efficiently
- Perform Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) testing to assess fiber optic cable integrity, detect faults, and determine cable lengths
- Document network configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes to maintain accurate records and facilitate knowledge sharing
- Follow existing MOPs, and Ensures best practices and procedures are followed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications) or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience working in a Network Operations Center (NOC) environment, preferably with a focus on optical networking..
- In-depth knowledge of optical networking principles, protocols, and technologies, including DWDM, and fiber optics.
- Proficiency in advanced fiber troubleshooting techniques, including OTDR testing, optical power measurements, and OSC signals.
- Hands-on experience with optical network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Ciena, Infinera (DTN-X family), or similar.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
