Consultant- Gynaecological Oncology
Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North-Eastern
parts of India and the neighboring countries, the Tata Medical Center (TMC) started operations in
Kolkata on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust – Tata Medical Centre Trust.
It is an integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with modern
facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. The hospital was designed by Cannon
Design, a renowned architectural firm from North America. It is located on 13 acres of land at New
Town in Kolkata, West Bengal. The Hospital, with a capacity of 431 beds, serves all sections of the
society, with 75% of the infrastructure earmarked for subsidized treatment for the underprivileged
sections. It provides a wide spectrum of services from diagnosis and therapy to rehabilitation and
palliative support. The Institution’s objective is to excel in service, education and research.
The Gynecologic Oncology service at Tata Medical Center offers a comprehensive preventive,
diagnostic, treatment and overall management for women with precancerous and cancerous
gynecological conditions, involving a multi-disciplinary team. The experts at TMC in this team are
dedicated towards providing evidence based management for cancers of female reproductive
organs utilizing modern and state of art technology. Our team has been providing these services for
national and international patients over a decade while being actively involved in cancer research
We at TMC have been operating on the Da Vinci Si robot since 2017 to treat patients with
endometrial (uterus) cancer, early cervical and ovarian cancers while extending the benefits of
minimal blood loss, pain and hospital stay to our patients.
We have been providing world class training to national and international postgraduate doctors
since inception in 2011 through Clinical Fellowship program. Our department was accredited as
one of the first four centres in India by the National Board of Examinations and the super-specialty
board certification course (DNB-SS Gynae Oncology) was started in 2019.
Department of Gynae Oncology has been actively involved in cancer research pertaining to cancer
prevention (SyMeC trial), ovarian cancer management and molecular studies with several national
and international publications. Trials involving sentinel lymph node, HIPEC, hereditary gynae
cancers and newer drugs for ovarian cancers are ongoing.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time job and any clinical work outside the institution is not permitted. The successful
candidate will join a team of four other consultants in Gynaecological oncology including the Head
of the Department at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata. The post holder will be super-specialty trained
in Gynaecological cancer and able to manage women with ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vaginal
and valval cancer. The post holder will be trained in advanced cytoreductive and minimal access
gynaecological cancer surgery.
The newly appointed consultant will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in
pathology, radiology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, GI surgery, urology, thoracic surgery,
plastic and reconstructive surgery and palliative care team and other departments as necessary for
the management of patients with gynaecological cancer and join multidisciplinary team meetings.
The Gynaecological Oncology consultant is also expected to attend to general gynaecological
problems of other cancer patients treated at this hospital. Apart from dedicated outpatient and
operating theatre sessions the consultant will need to participate in all institutional and
departmental academic programs along with making significant contributions in teaching super-
specialty trainees in Gynaecological Oncology and assisting them in their statutory research work.
The candidate is expected to be dedicated to the progress of the department supporting other
consultants in the team when necessary.

Tuesday: Academic/Admin, flexible cover for OT/OPD when scheduled consultant on leave
Wednesday: OPD (Private and Gen), OT 1 in 4 weeks
Thursday: Supervise MDTM, OT 1 in 4 weeks
Friday: OT
