The Opportunity:


The Legal Change & innovation team sits within the wider Legal Chief Operating Office (COO) and determines and executes the Legal Change agenda on behalf of the Legal department (the Legal priorities) and in line with firmwide priorities (Technology objectives, Real estate objectives etc). This includes:


  • Becoming the natural partner and first point of contact to advise Legal internal and external clients on the shape, size and approach of the Legal Change portfolio in the initial stages of mobilisation and execution
  • Building credibility through the effective delivery of in-flight projects and future assignments to ensure a more widespread use of the team as primary execution owners
  • Improving cost efficiency by reducing the Legal reliance on external vendors and enforcing first point of contact principle as above
  • Bringing enhanced transparency on execution progress to all stakeholders, empowering informed and appropriate decisions
  • Proactively identifying & managing issues as they arise & de-risking as required
  • Encouraging strong and consistent business sponsorship ethos
  • Deploying an intelligent and progressive resourcing approach to ensure we have the best resource available (both internal or external) with the appropriate cost discipline being observed
  • Identifying the right SMEs to fulfil the needs of the business both in terms of content and industry expertise where not internally available
  • Driving consistency of Legal Change approach across multiple business areas; remaining cognisant of regional nuances and adopting best practice

What you’ll do:


  • The Project Management Office leads the change governance for all of the Legal Change portoflio, including documentation and governance for The Legal Design Authority Meeting, The Legal Portfolio Steering Committee and ensuring all projects / programmes adhere to the correct standards.
  • Project Management Officers are responsible for deploying and overseeing the Programme Management framework and other Change Frameworks across Legal Change and instilling good programme disciplines within their programme and the HSBC Group.
  • The role holder has end to end responsibility for all aspects of the programme office, including definition, controlling, execution, change management and implementation. They work closely with Programme Managers and the Global Legal teams to ensure alignment of their programme with the wider change portfolio and the Group Strategy, Values and Behaviours.
  • Alongside the Legal programme delivery responsibilities, the Project Management Officer will ensure that adherance to firm-wide standards are completed and all audit requirements, budgetary requirements MSII’s and technology standards are met.
  • The Project Management Officer will also set-up and run the governance for location moves within the department, starting locally but building a framework in a robust and repeatable way.
  • The Project Management Officer establish relationships with stakeholders to help them overcome barriers to change. They are an experienced leader and must able to identify gaps and recommend interventions to assist with risk and issue resolution and interlock dependencies (whilst tracking and reporting transparently).
  • They should possess exceptional communication, analytical and organisational skills and must be able to assist stakeholders in handling changing environments and priorities. They must also be able to develop creative solutions to overcome organisational challenges and demonstrate deep business acumen in facilitating business transformation.
  • This role supports stakeholders, Project Management Lead and the change community to produce schedule and budget status report data and to assist with more administrative portfolios schedules, costs, resources monitoring and reporting.
