Job Summary: The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors at the construction site. They will implement safety policies, procedures, and regulations to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational health hazards. The Safety Officer will conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and training programs to promote a culture of safety within the construction project.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with government regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of the construction site to identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and non-compliance issues.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to address safety concerns and develop corrective action plans.
- Provide safety training and orientation to all employees, subcontractors, and visitors to ensure awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and recommend preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and training sessions.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to minimize workplace hazards.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, safety regulations, and emerging trends to ensure continuous improvement of safety standards.
- Coordinate with external safety agencies, auditors, and inspectors to ensure compliance with legal requirements and industry standards.
- Conduct emergency preparedness drills and ensure the availability of necessary safety equipment and resources on-site.
- Promote a safety culture by fostering open communication, providing feedback, and recognizing and rewarding safe behaviors.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of construction safety regulations, codes, and best practices.
- Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety management systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and train employees at all levels.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Proficient in using safety management software, tools, and equipment.
- Relevant certifications in occupational health and safety are highly desirable.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
