qualifications

are summarized below:

Responsibilities:

  • Data Center HVAC System Design: Developing and designing HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers, considering factors such as cooling loads, airflow management, humidity control, redundancy, energy efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Cooling System Selection: Selecting appropriate air/water side cooling systems for data centers, including Fan wall units, computer room air handlers (CRAHs), chilled water systems, in-row cooling, and containment solutions, based on the specific cooling requirements of the data center and the criticality of the equipment.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis: Conducting CFD simulations to optimize airflow distribution, identify hotspots, and ensure efficient cooling throughout the data center. Analyzing the results to recommend design modifications and optimize the HVAC system performance.
  • Redundancy and Fault Tolerance: Designing HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features to ensure continuous operation of the data center in the event of equipment failure or maintenance activities. This includes the design of backup cooling systems, automatic switchover mechanisms, and monitoring systems.
  • Heat Load Calculation and Capacity Planning: Performing heat load calculations for data centers to determine the cooling requirements based on the IT equipment, power density, and anticipated growth. Conducting capacity planning to ensure the HVAC system can accommodate future expansions and upgrades.
  • Energy Efficiency and Sustainability: Implementing energy-efficient HVAC design strategies, such as utilizing economizers, variable speed drives, energy recovery systems, and optimizing airflow management techniques, to minimize energy consumption and support sustainability initiatives.
  • Air Quality and Filtration: Ensuring the data center's air quality is maintained at optimal levels by designing appropriate filtration systems and implementing air quality monitoring mechanisms. Addressing concerns related to particulate matter, humidity control, and contaminant removal to protect sensitive IT equipment.
  • Coordination with Electrical and Mechanical Systems: Collaborating with electrical engineers and mechanical engineers to integrate the HVAC system seamlessly with the electrical infrastructure, UPS systems, emergency power systems, fire suppression systems, and other critical infrastructure components.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensuring the HVAC design complies with industry standards, guidelines, and codes specific to data center environments, such as ASHRAE TC 9.9, Uptime Institute, and TIA-942.
  • Documentation and Specifications: Preparing detailed technical drawings, specifications, and documentation related to the HVAC design for data centers. Communicating design plans effectively with clients, architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Managing HVAC design projects for data centers, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination with project teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Data Center Expertise: Staying updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in data center design, cooling solutions, and HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers. Participating in training programs, attending conferences, and pursuing certifications related to data center design and operation.

Experience:

  • Proficiency in HVAC system design, including load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping design, control systems, and energy analysis. Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis for optimizing airflow and temperature distribution is beneficial.
  • Coordination with Electrical and Mechanical Systems: Collaborating with electrical engineers and mechanical engineers to integrate the HVAC system seamlessly with the electrical infrastructure, UPS systems, emergency power systems, fire suppression systems, and other critical infrastructure components.
  • Experience in preparing detailed technical drawings, specifications, and documentation related to the HVAC design for data centers. Communicating design plans effectively with clients, architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience in reviewing/approving contractor shop drawings, material technical submittals, method statements(MST) & inspection test plans (IPT).
  • Must have excellent knowledge of NBC, ECBC, NFPA, CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS, IS and EN Standards
  • Must have excellent knowledge about data center TIER Standard Topology as per Uptime Institute, TIA 942, BICSI 002, EN 50600 etc.
  • Must have excellent knowledge with hands on experience on software like HAP, Ansys, IES, Six Sigma, Cradle, Navis Works, BIM, AutoCAD
  • Candidate with design consultancy background will be preferred.

Qualifications

Qualification:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related field is typically required. Preference would be given for candidates with a master's degree or advanced coursework in HVAC systems or energy management.
  • Professional certifications related to HVAC engineering, such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation, would be advantageous.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards the same would be desirable.
