Main role / Job Objective:
The BI Business Analyst embodies the interaction between business & the BI team, supports the transformation to a data-driven organisation, operates on a global basis and frequently interacts with business stakeholders globally on the one hand and with BI development resources on the other hand.
Main responsibilities and key activities:
You spend time with business to understand and document business processes.
You identify in the various system databases which tables and fields are used to store the data during these business processes, and which transformations are done along the way.
You gather business requirements to determine what measures, visuals, trends, etc. business users want to see in the various Power BI reports.
You work with business to prepare data glossaries.
You work with business to define how measures need to be calculated.
You translate business requirements into functional requirements for the BI development team, and work with the BI developers to design extensions to the BI data lakehouse.
You test and validate the quality of the implementation.
You work with business to facilitate User Acceptance Testing.
You troubleshoot questions/problems from the user community, searching for the root cause and designing long-term solution(s).
Positioning:
From whom do you receive direction: Manager Business Intelligence & Analytics (located in Ghent, Belgium)
You will be part of the BI team (partially located in Belgium, partially located in India), consisting of BI data engineers, BI data/business analysts and the manager BI & Analytics
Qualifications and professional knowledge:
= The technical or specific knowledge required to perform the job successfully (e.g. diploma and/or level of education required for the job, languages, programming languages, duration of experience …)
You have a bachelor’s degree in economics, computer science, engineering, mathematics or related field of study. Master’s degree preferred.
You have strong knowledge in business processes and how to document these.
You have minimum 6 years’ experience in a data/business analysis role in a BI environment.
Advanced knowledge of SQL and Python
You can communicate ideas clearly and effectively both in speaking and writing.
You have influencing skills which gives you the ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships with business units and other associates.
You have eye for detail and are interested in understanding how our business works.
You are fluent in English, both written & spoken.
Proactive attitude, i.e., ‘avoid’ rather than ‘react’.
