Role description
Purpose of the Job: This role will be responsible for the overall category strategy, contracting, risk management and vendor development of all commodities within this category that are procured by Tata Steel Long Products at Gamharia Location.
- The position will seek to identify & evaluate potential suppliers, associated supply risk with procurement of this category and identify mitigating mechanisms needed.
· This also involves aligning with CMP Team relevant for Materials and develop the vision and category strategy that needs to be executed by the respective teams. The strategy would include, but may not be limited to (a) demand planning (b) new vendor development (c) risk management (d) category strategy & portfolio management etc
Job Responsibility:
Category Management -
- Standardization
- Drive standardization of material procured
- Category risk management
- Assessment of risk & mitigation plans (Accountable)
- Category strategy & Category segmentation
- Finalize segmentation for related categories & decide on annual plan
- Spend analysis, annual category strategy / study, agenda, KPI
- Strategic savings identification & execution
- Preparation of annual ABP
- Initiate & seek annual requirements for spares through Central Planning Team
- Develop standardized cost model & drive continuous improvement
- Drive integration of buy across Tata Steel India
Strategic supplier management
- Responsible for Vendor panel management – develop small, core set of suppliers
- Drive Strategic evaluation & segmentation of vendor panel – drive vendor evaluation & ranking
- Reduce the extent of proprietary buy within each material group in a phased manner
- Responsible for Introduction of large vendors with broader portfolio
- Development of vendors & capability building – expansion of business & identifying new vendors (jointly with Vendor Development team)
Escalation of quality issues / claims management
Tendering and negotiation
- Administer and manage the RFQ and contracting process
- Carry out Negotiations and contract finalization and applying detailed cost modeling
- Design tendering and contracting strategy (Reverse auction etc)
Align Business share allocation in line with vendor panel segmentation approved by user
Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability
Identify specifications / initiatives that align with aspects of Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability - Actively support Sr Manager – Process & HSE
Process / IT
- Drive continuous improvements in procurement to pay process for categories under purview with support of Sr Manager/Divisional Manager - Procurement
- Ensure timely completion of ordering cycle and providing adequate time for closure of contracts
- Reducing repetitive complaints being logged by stake holders - Monitor & close complaints in respective area
- Responsible for TQM rollout
Skills
- Relevant technical knowledge of services and understanding of end usage High analytical rigor required (Value in use analysis)
- Clear understanding of the supply market, and any new developments Innovation oriented
- Knowledge of analytical tools and/modeling for value in use analysis
Other details
Degree in Engineeringor equivalent in any discipline from any UGC/AICTE recognised institute.
MBA in Supply Chain/ Operations would be desirable
