We have an open position for an experienced and highly motivated BI Developer, with broad experience in defining and documenting report requirements, designing, developing and validating reports using Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI). The position requires strong technical and communication skills, and a track record of developing great products.
The role includes all technical challenges associated with Analyzing, designing & developing BI dashboards, scorecards, charts & graphs, drill-downs, drill through and dynamic reports to meet information needs for better business process management and Business Intelligence solutions that are aligned with the business needs of Herman Miller.
This role transcends departmental and geographical boundaries as it aims at supporting and enabling the various divisions of the Herman Miller business across the globe. The key responsibilities of this role can be summarized as:
Designing, Developing and Deploying reports using Business Intelligence Technologies of Microsoft (~40%)
- Work with stakeholders to design appropriate BI dashboards, scorecards, charts & graphs, drill-downs, drill through, sub reports and dynamic reports to meet information needs.
- Translate stakeholder deliverables into the project methodology deliverables that result in design, such as functional specifications, use cases, work flow & process diagrams, data flow & data model diagrams.
- Assist in the development of logical and physical data models for designing/developing Business Intelligence & Data Warehouse requirements.
- Perform table and interface design, development of logical and physical data model/database, ETL processes, BI reporting/OLAP cubes/OLAP reporting and population of databases/ETL processes/BI reports/queries while meeting business/user requirements.
- Design and analyze reports using Visual Studio, Report Designer, SSRS, SSIS and SSAS.
- Design the architecture, Data warehouse, data marts and BI reports which will support various data initiatives.
- ETL design, development, support of reporting tools and processes
- Integration of BI reports with applications & dashboard and SharePoint portals
- Apply role based access of the reports. Integrating active directory with cube based Reports.
- Design and develop extremely reliable, scalable and high performing reports
- Ensure quality of the code using code quality tools and frequent code reviews
- Deploying, maintaining and trouble-shooting on-demand and scheduled BI reports.
- Work with regional and global data warehousing teams on data extraction, analysis and load.
- Provide other members of the development team with support and advice in the best use of RS’
Requirements analysis and stakeholder relationship management (~20%)
- Participate in regular conference calls with WTL and business partners
- Develop iterative prototypes based on requirements
- Contribute to architecture design and discussion.
Owning Delivery of fast paced (time-bound) releases for BI (~20%)
- Building and delivering BI solutions that are match the original requirements
- Ownership of requirements, requests and tasks assigned and their successful completion
- Ownership of communication required for the work completion
- Collaboration with WTL, Business partners, developers and others as necessary.
- Project planning and tracking
- Application development and technical code reviews
- Cross team coordination for project delivery
Coordinate with the Testing Team (~20%)
- Perform unit tests on work completed before deploying to testing environment
- Implement bug fixes
- Knowledge sharing sessions with test team
- Causal analysis in case of major issues or repetitive concerns
Essential experience
- Demonstrated experience in building cubes and reports that take advantage of OLAP/Dimensional Modelling capabilities.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical and functional problems with intuitive problem-solving techniques
- Experience with data analysis, data modelling, data warehouse experience is a plus
- Experience in optimizing databases, understanding of referential integrity and the use of indexes
- Strong experience in using Excel for data presentation is a plus.
- Possess an extremely sound understanding of Object Oriented Design, Branding Guidelines, Design approach and User experience criteria
- Strong technical background in Microsoft platform
Ideal candidate
- A graduate / post-graduate in computer science / technology / engineering or mathematics
- Having excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience with BI Development expertise using SQL Server Reporting, Integration and Analysis Services and Report Manager. SQL Server 2016 experience strongly preferred
- Good experience on parameterization, performance optimization and hands-on Transact-SQL.
- Good exposure to Tableau / Power BI.
- Good data modelling experience will be essential.
- Experience in any programming language will be an added advantage.
- Ability to work individually or within a team environment
- Ability to participate in multiple projects & tasks and priorities in a healthy work environment
- Has attention to detail and a penchant for quality
- Proficient in documentation, process and workflow design and version control.
- Ability to take direction, constructive criticism and work to specified deadlines
- Adhere to process and procedures defined for the role, the team and the organization
- Certified on one or more of the core technology areas of work
Desired experience & skills
- Microsoft SharePoint portal integration experience is a plus. Delivery experience on challenging projects such as Dashboard development in SQL Server Reporting Services and Excel Services and Tableau/Power BI.
- Experience working on Business Objects and other tools will definitely be an advantage.
- Familiarity with source control software: Source Safe & TFS, Git and backtracking tool Jira
- IT products or services background with IT majors
- Local candidates preferred.
Timings: 12:00 PM AM – 9:00 PM IST
Reporting structure: BI Team Lead in India and Business Partner in UK
Compensation: Best in the industry and commensurate with experience
