Chandigarh University is seeking a dedicated and empathetic individual to join our team as a Student Counsellor. The Student Counsellor plays a vital role in providing guidance, support, and resources to help students overcome challenges and thrive both personally and academically.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide Personal Counseling:
- Offer one-on-one counseling to students dealing with personal and emotional issues, including stress, anxiety, depression, homesickness, and relationship challenges.
- Conduct initial assessments and develop personalized solutions for students facing various difficulties.
- Employ active listening skills to understand students' concerns and offer unbiased guidance.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment.
2. Academic and Career Guidance:
- Assist students in creating academic plans to achieve their goals and maximize their potential.
- Aid in course selection, major exploration, and career planning.
- Administer and interpret career assessments to identify suitable career paths.
- Provide information on internships, job opportunities, and networking events.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support students' academic success.
3. Crisis Management:
- Respond promptly and effectively to students experiencing crises such as suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or harmful substance use.
- Employ crisis intervention techniques and make appropriate referrals to external resources when necessary.
- Coordinate with relevant university departments to ensure a coordinated response to student crises.
4. Conduct Group Counseling:
- Facilitate group counseling sessions on topics such as stress management, time management, study skills, and personal growth.
- Organize workshops on self-care, mindfulness, and resilience to help students develop coping strategies.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, consultations, and referrals.
- Prepare reports on student progress, trends, and areas of concern for university administration.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of counseling practices and interventions to ensure effective service delivery.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or a related field.
- Previous experience in counseling or a related role is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to empathize with a diverse range of students.
- Excellent communication skills, including active listening and verbal/written communication.
- Knowledge of ethical guidelines for counseling and maintaining confidentiality.
- Understanding of mental health issues and strategies for providing effective support.
- Self-motivated and able to manage a caseload of students effectively.
- Familiarity with different counseling approaches and ability to adapt to individual student needs.
- Proficient in computer systems and counseling software.
