Summary:

Duties

The Community Management Coordinator for Social Media works under the direct supervision of the Strategic Content Coordination Specialist (SCCS) and has no supervisory responsibilities. Is responsible for building and maintaining Consulate social media properties; for developing an editorial calendar at least six months in advance designed to promote Consulate priorities with online social media communities; and customizing content and online engagement to promote U.S. Mission objectives. Organizes and hosts online conversations; designs and develops innovative engagement opportunities and tools. Provides guidance to PD Public Engagement staff and other Consulate personnel who engage with online social media communities on standards, regulations, and policies for the use of digital properties. India’s social media landscape is on par with that of the United States, either leading or in the world’s top three followings on major platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp. The Chennai consular
district, which covers the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and the Union Territories and has a population of 180 million people, has undergone a faster rate of economic growth than most northern states and is home to Bangalore (Bengaluru), India’s “Silicon Valley.”


Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in a multilingual, multicultural or multinational organization is required. Market research and audience analysis, and design and execution of online campaigns must have been significant components of the job. Must have experience managing digital properties, including direct online interaction with the public, and content creation in multimedia and traditional formats.


Education Requirements:

Mandatory: A university degree in communications, business, marketing or local equivalent is required.

LANGUAGE: Mandatory: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required AND
Option A: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Tamil is required; OR,
Option B: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Malayalam is required; OR,
Option C: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Kannada is required.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
