Position Responsibilities


  • Liaise with Engineering, Program Management, Quality and Production departments for software
  • product certification related activities.
  • Conduct DO-178C and its supplements (DO-331, DO-332 and less probably DO-333) based SOI reviews (SOI#1 through SOI#4). Maintain metrics and help teams to fix the SOI findings and other comments.
  • Review Software Change Impact Analysis.
  • Review DO-178B/C SW plans and standards during software planning stage and assist teams in ensuring compliance to guidance documents.
  • Act as gate keeper to ensure any data that gets sent to E-UM has met the minimum compliance objectives.
  • Take lead in training and mentoring the product line teams on Software Certification topics that are critical to teams.
  • Develop and compile internal and external resources to support Software Certification activities with items like project specific certification plans, compliance to issue papers, etc. Manage Software Certification schedules, Certification submittals (All Plan documents, SAS, SCI)
  • and certification risks for all products / projects
  • Facilitate Software Tool qualification by conducting reviews of tool qualification documents (such as TQP (Tool Qualification Plan), TOR (Tool Operational Requirements) and TAS (Tool Accomplishments Summary).) and by conducting necessary SOI reviews. Support teams to update the documents for showing compliance per DO-330
  • Participate in TRR (Test Readiness Review) and RFS (Formal testing activity of Run for Score).
  • Participate in test bench conformity.
  • Develop or review the Software Certification document templates to comply with DO-178C plus its supplements and DO-254.
  • Work with software product line teams to understand the improvement needed in showing compliance and support the team to develop in those areas.
  • Work with software product line teams and US teams to foster compliance and safety mindset.
  • Serve as a liaison between Boeing, DERs (Designation Engineering Representatives) and Certification agencies like FAA, EASA, DGCA, etc.
  • Coordinate Software Certification activities between Boeing and associated certification offices, as needed.
  • Ensure compliance to all applicable FAA regulations (FARs) through SOI Reviews
  • Work as part of a global team which requires schedule flexibility to support activities across multiple time zones including India, and the US and will be responsible for Software Certification support for Boeing Avionics product lines.
  • Participate and drive organizational initiatives related to Software Certification and safety.
  • Responsible to build a team of expert Software Certification engineers.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):


  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher is required as a BASIC QUALIFICATION
  • 18+ years of experience in working avionics products and full life cycle software product development activities.
  • 6+ years of experience in working with DO-178C and its supplements DO-331 and DO-332 guidance and compliance.
  • Good experience with DO-326/356, DO-254, DO-278, DO-200B , DO-330
  • Should have good experience in developing and baselining process documents per DO-178 Guideline.
  • Review/enhance engineering work products as per the needs of the software engineering team.
  • Knowledge of the toolset –DOORS, Git, MATLAB, LDRA, PolySpace, Alsatian Suite (JIRA, Confluence, and Collaborator, etc.) will be needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary to effectively interact with globally located stakeholders.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem resolution and management skills, as well as have prior experience with complex PDM systems.
  • Experience with FAA ACs, ADs, TSOs, Type certificates, CFRs PART 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 
  • SAE-ARPs as applicable to projects/product 
  • Extensive experience with software engineering and software development processes 
  • Experience with DO-178 and DO-254 standards and compliance 
  • Experience and understanding of configuration status accounting processes 
  • Understand complex architectural and networking concepts to enhance business process 
  • and service delivery 
  • Experience with finding compliance (SOI reviews) and also showing compliance (as a product engineer, show the work done.).
  • Guiding and mentoring teams on compliance topics.
  • Guide management for handling critical Software Certification topics.
  • Be flexible to travel to other sites on work and guide teams.
  • Represent team in different review meetings.
  • Bold enough to point out errors/mistakes with respect to compliance.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience ) :


  • Good Auditing Skills and analytical skills.
  • Proactively seek information and direction for successful completion of the statement of work.
  • Must be able to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in producing software engineering metrices and reports.
  • Support software engineering organizations and prepare data for engineering/program release.
  • Knowledge of Agile practices and Agile methodology like SCRUM, Kanban.
  • Good exposure to military standards.
  • Innovation and idea generation.

Typical Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's / Master’s degree in Engineering with 18 or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
