Brief on the Organization:

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is working towards building a healthier India. It is helping to address the limited institutional and systems capacity in India by strengthening education and training, advancing research and technology and facilitating policy and practice in the area of Public Health. PHFI is headquartered in New Delhi with national presence through its constituent units of regional Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) and Centers of Applied Research in core public health themes. The Foundation, established in 2006 as a public private initiative, is governed by an independent board comprising of senior government officials, eminent Indian and International academic and leaders, civil society representatives and corporate leaders. Project Brief:

The goal of the ICMR Capacity Strengthening Program is to improve long-term research skills of the ICMR scientists in disease burden estimation in India that could contribute to improving population health. As part of this program eight ICMR scientists have been selected by the Director General ICMR to receive hands-on training in disease burden estimation methods through an intensive program comprising of virtual and in-person training sessions spread over approximately one year.

The program is structured into three phases: intensive virtual training, intensive in-person training at IHME, and an outputs and products phase. PHFI has contributed to the conceptualization of the ICMR Capacity Building Program for Disease Burden Estimation and is engaged in the following activities:

  • PHFI has been providing strategic guidance on this capacity-building program in the context of India.
  • PHFI has been providing technical and contextual inputs to IHME in developing the training structure and materials for this capacity-building program.
  • PHFI has developed a needs assessment questionnaire for the ICMR fellows in collaboration with IHME to assess their specific training requirements.
  • PHFI has been tracking the progress of this capacity-building program.
  • PHFI will play a key role in dissemination of the learnings from this capacity building program.
  • PHFI will establish mechanisms for routine communication with IHME and other stakeholders to discuss challenges and monitor progress towards completion of this work.
Deliverables:
  • Provide original contributions to research design and study tools.
  • Lead data analysis in consultation with senior investigators.
  • Play a proactive role in data management and data software development
  • Guide junior researchers.
  • Work with senior investigators to coordinate the various aspects of the project.
  • Conduct literature review and data searches related to the research themes.
  • Contribute to planning and conduct of the stakeholder meetings.
  • Prepare publications and project reports.
  • Travel as required.
  • Any other task assigned by the PI.
Qualification:

Essential:

  • Public health or related PhD.
Experience:

Essential:

  • At least 10 years of substantial experience in health research

Desirable:

  • Substantial research analysis skills
  • Expertise in statistical packages
  • Strong attention to detail and methodological approach
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to work with timelines.
  • Effective teamwork
  • Ability to execute tasks efficiently.
  • Publications from previous research in reputed journals.
