Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of a Purchase Engineer include, but are not limited to:
Negotiating and managing contracts:
Reviews items to be procured and reviews bid documents; selects bidders, negotiates prices and quotations, and evaluates alternate suppliers.
Enhancing purchasing policies:
Manages the entire procurement process, develops purchasing policies and procedures, and prepares performance reports.
Developing a sourcing plan:
Reviews engineering drawings, accompanies engineers in examining sources of supply, and interviews prospective suppliers.
Managing inventory:
Utilizes inventory and cost analysis reports and reconciles stock discrepancies with suppliers; reorders levels as necessary.
Conducting research:
Analyzes, researches, and recommends alternative sources of supply for usage and cost savings.
Providing customer service:
Represents the organization in trade shows and industry events; builds positive relationships with suppliers, vendors, and colleagues.
