Roles & Responsibilities
Job Summary: The Riser Cuttings expert is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the riser systems to achieve optimal casting results. This position requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Riser System Design : Develop and design effective riser systems based on casting requirements, component geometry, and material properties.
- Casting Simulation : Utilize casting simulation software to model and analyze the effectiveness of the riser cuttings and predict potential defects.
- Riser Placement : Determine the appropriate location and size of risers to ensure proper feeding of molten metal during solidification.
- Optimization of Riser Design : Continuously improve and optimize the riser system design to reduce casting defects and increase yield.
- Material and Process Selection : Select suitable materials and processes for the construction of riser cuttings to withstand the harsh casting environment.
- Quality Assurance : Collaborate with quality control teams to inspect and evaluate the effectiveness of the riser cuttings in achieving defect-free castings.
- Process Documentation : Create and maintain detailed documentation of riser designs, simulations, and process parameters for future reference.
- Cost Management : Optimize the use of materials and resources to minimize costs associated with riser cuttings.
- Health and Safety : Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment for riser-related activities.
The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for this role shall be:
- Casting Yield : Measure and optimize the casting yield by reducing casting defects through effective riser cuttings.
- Scrap Reduction : Track and minimize scrap generated due to casting defects.
- Riser Efficiency : Evaluate the efficiency of riser cuttings in feeding molten metal to prevent shrinkage and porosity defects.
- Productivity : Monitor the time taken to design and implement riser cuttings for casting processes.
- Cost Savings : Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved riser cuttings design and casting efficiency.
Authority
- The Riser Cuttings Specialist has the authority to design, implement, and modify riser cuttings designs to achieve the desired casting outcomes. They may also have the authority to recommend changes in the casting process for better efficiency.
People

Desired Candidate Profile
Education and Certifications:
- A bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications or training in casting and riser cutting design will be advantageous.
Experience:
- Proven experience as a Riser Cuttings Specialist or in a similar role within the casting industry.
- In-depth knowledge of casting processes, riser cuttings design principles and materials science.
- Familiarity with casting simulation software for analysis and optimization.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot casting defects related to riser cuttings.
- Strong attention to detail and a focus on quality and efficiency.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
Technical / Functional Expertise & other competencies:
- Proficiency in casting processes and their impact on riser cuttings design.
- Experience with casting simulation software for riser analysis and optimization.
- Knowledge of material properties and their influence on riser cuttings design.
- Familiarity with foundry operations and casting techniques.
