The following is an indicative list of the kinds of work you could be called upon to do: Overall:
OBGYN nurses at the facility need to be proponents of Mom centric care. Providing a unique and taking the extra step to satisfy the Mom in every aspect shall be in their DNA. The typical role shall include,
CLINICAL
- Provide physical exams to monitor both the mother’s and baby’s health
- Work alongside midwives and Obstetricians to coach the mother through contraction and assist in delivering the baby
- Respond to emergencies and provide necessary new-born assessment and care
- Monitor and assist the mother through her initial recovery process post delivery
- Educate mothers on how to take care of themselves and their babies especially on topics like breastfeeding, infant caretaking etc. and address any concerns the mother might have with accurate information
- Promptly update charts and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) with the information gathered during physical exams, monitoring etc.
- Ability to communicate, conduct exams, assess needs and clarify queries to support virtual care operations
- Promote clinical excellence and high standards of care which utilizes an evidence -based approach
- Help improve the performance of the team and the experience for the mother
- Contribute to the delivery of the organization’s objectives
- Maintain & manage pharmacy & medical consumables stock
PHYSICAL SKILL
- Utilise the highly specialised physical skills and dexterity required to carry out maternal and infant physical care before during and following birth e.g. abdominal palpation, vaginal examination and new born examination
- Utilise highly specialised, physical skills and dexterity associated with emergency interventions e.g. new born and adult resuscitation
- Use appropriate physical effort to accommodate client choice of birth mode i.e. Water birth, squatting and other alternative birth position
INFECTION CONTROL
- Have a personal obligation to act to reduce Hospital Associated Infections (HAIs)
- Must attend mandatory training in infection prevention and control and be compliant with all measures required to reduce HAIs
- Must be familiar with the organization’s infection control policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as hand decontamination policy etc.
COMMUNICATION
- To work closely with other members of the maternity team to facilitate the continuity of
- care thereby enhancing the patient experience
- Communicate sensitively, bad/sad news to families in situations such as foetal
abnormalities/death/stillbirth
- Maintain accurate and legible care record in accordance with the organizational policies and
guidelines
- Undertake clinical and personal data collection and data input on multiple occasions
throughout the day e.g. medical history, record of care
- Agree arrangements for communication with the client/ family/carer respecting and
maintaining the women’s right to confidentiality
- Report all incidents, complaints or accidents to comply with organizational guidelines and
assist and support in the investigation and resolution
Aastrika will train the OBGYN nurses in international standards of midwife led care in lines with the practice in US, UK, Sweden and others.
