Position Purpose
The Lead Scale-up & Basic Engineering is responsible for driving feasibility studies, Scale Up studies to ensure smooth transfer of products from lab scale to commercial scale. The role will also be responsible for planning and resource allocation for accommodating various new molecules in existing set-Up and implementation of new molecule production with a close co-ordination between Production & Project teams
Strategic Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies, Scale Up studies and technology transfer leading to a successful process handover at commercial scale
- Ensure execution of projects and Engineering Optimization activities
- Maintain awareness of industry and technology trends to ensure that PI is current in development efforts to supply new and innovative offerings
- Implement new systems & processes to enhance work efficiency
- Drive demo-commissioning post scale-up validation in KL/PP, to ensure successful transfer to commercial scale
Operational Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility analysis for new enquiry proposals
- Provide support to operations of Pilot Plant to verify the processes on pilot scale and development of data required for design of commercial scale plants
- Develop and update process design manuals and procuring design software
- Provide support to Process Technology in developing any special equipment needed in lab work
- Drive the development of the Basic Engineering Package (BEP)
- Provide process engineering support to the Production department
- Determine the objectives for Scale Up trials
- Ensure quality, yield and productivity before transferring the process to production
- Conduct analysis of different parameters for process improvements
- Ensure timely release of SOP and other documents for new products
- Validate system documents like CAPA, RMC and Waste norms
- Ensure smooth hand over of process to operations team
- Develop KPIs to measure the performance of Scale Up Team to ensure high productivity among subordinates
- Ensure desired quality and productivity of new molecules as per business plan
Financial Responsibilities
- Maintain Scale Up budgets and ensure adherence to the budget
- Ensure the desire quality and productivity of new molecules as per business plan
- Ensure achievement of cost saving initiatives to achieve targeted savings in time frame
People Responsibilities
- Recommend initiatives for building requisite skills & competencies through focused professional development and capability building initiatives for the Scale-up & Basic Engineering team
- Review workforce capacity gaps within the Scale-up & Basic Engineering team and ensure timely recruitment in alignment with Corporate HR policies
- Actively sponsor, in conjunction with the Senior Management Team, the performance management process of the team

Education Qualification
M.Tech – Chemical Engineering from Institutes of repute like IIT/NIT
Work Experience
10-12 years of Scale Up experience
