Job Description:

The Should Cost Engineer is accountable for the complete estimating of a product, Sub assembly or a component for any given requests. This role directs and leads estimating efforts & to ensure optimum costing with coordination of other departments to ensure the proposed costs meets customer expectations and manufacturing requirements.”

Primary Responsibilities:

    • Interpret drawing per customer specification, to understand customer requirement.
    • Utilize cost methodologies and tools and appropriate software models and packages to prepare and maintain reliable and accurate data.
    • Establish cost estimates of production processes and tooling costs and review alternatives or put forward recommendations for improvement.
    • Estimating the cost for selected geographies and analyzing supplier quotations if required
    • Validating suppliers’ one-time charges and non-recurring cost expenses (tooling, fixtures, jigs, development costs).
    • Conduct & lead product Tear Down engineering / cost analysis.
    • Perform basic calculation on all type of manufacturing and assemblies’ process.
    • Optimized TCO (cost, quality, availability) are assured in product and business creation and through their full life cycle utilizing DFX.
    • Drive early supplier involvement and identify cost drivers to influence design decision making and achieve target costing.
    • Collaborate with Supplier Quality in the new supplier/component release process including compliance and sustainability aspects.
    • Drive concept savings in new product development in close cooperation with Marketing, Quality, SCM and development Provides Should cost assessments for newly proposed products.
    • Drive the Supplier Selection Process together with the Commodity Teams.
    • Lead complex Cost Engineering activities, manage reporting of results of complex assignments to steering boards.
    • Evaluate supply base trends with respect to manufacturing systems and processes and act on the subsequent data to achieved measured results.
    • Analyze and anticipate cost trends, develop and review cost forecasts, translate into implications for the business.
    • KPIs include BOM savings, procurement strategy for new products, productivity ideas and drive these with different stakeholders.
    • Support all NPIs, new cost savings ideas and new procurement processes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in mechanical/industrial engineering
  • More than 5 years of work experience in Should cost Analysis and Manufacturing Engineering

Preferred Skill Set:

  • Should have experience for Should costing for various mechanical commodity like Machining, Sheet Metal, Casting, Forging, Electronics and Composites, Plastics, Rubber, MIM etc.
  • Knowledge on various pre and post Manufacturing process ability to analyze and evaluate related costs.
  • Should have experienced in minimum two domains Aero/Auto/Electronics/etc..
  • Knowledge on costing tools Apriori/ DFMA/ TCPCM/Costimator/ NPV/ TCO etc.
  • Knowledge on work center rates database Development for all the Geography.
  • Knowledge on CAD and CAM tools Siemens NX.
  • Capable to study drawing and GD&T, Understand Component technical requirement.
  • Knowledge of Product Costing Methodology, Industrial engineering practices, Manufacturing Engineering practices, Manufacturing processes, Work-centers, Tooling etc.
  • Good knowledge on material properties, heat treatment methods and surface coating solutions.
  • Knowledge of QC tools and PPAP element like PFMEA, Control plan, MSA, Gauge R&R, SPC study & DFX
