Job Description - Teacher Librarian
Responsible to Head of Libraries/Senior Librarian
Job Purpose:
- To assist the Head of Libraries/Senior Librarian in promoting and developing the school library in order to provide an efficient service to the students and staff.
- To encourage in PYP students a love of reading for pleasure and recreation.
- To facilitate and to support PYP teachers in providing an inquiry-based approach to learning.
Main Functions:-
- Assists the head of libraries/senior librarian in the selection, de-selection, and assessment of the libraries (PYP/MYP/DP/Pre-schools) collection development and users’ needs across all resources (print & electronic).
- Managing the circulation of the libraries stock including pre-school branches during regular/periodical visits.
- With head of libraries/senior librarian work alongside PYP teachers and students in the development and exploration of Units of Inquiry and information literacy skills.
- Assess and compile print and electronic resources, including websites and online databases that are appropriate to specific UOI.
- Support PYP teachers in developing classroom based libraries to create a language rich environment and support PYP teachers to develop a learning and reference section for teacher professional development and pedagogy.
- Planning and conducting of information literacy skills based library activities and reading program, including instruction for effective, efficient and ethical use of print and electronic resources.
- Library Integration through recreational reading and activities based on UOI through Dictionary, Encyclopaedia, Internet skills and Research & Referencing skills.
- Provide support for cataloguing of new material to the library collection.
- Managing the library management system and supporting its use by students
- Create theme based library displays from time to time.
- Help library users find material to meet their need.
- Assisting library users to become proficient in using on line resources
- Attend grade level collaboration meetings and inset training/workshops.
- Liason between the PYP library, the MYP library and MYP teaching staff to contribute to the continuing learning across all areas of learning.
- Support head of libraries to facilitate and organize Author/Illustrators visits, book fairs, storytelling sessions and book reading session.
- To stimulate ‘inter-cultural awareness’ through the provisions of materials reflecting a variety of cultures, perspectives and languages.
- Contribute to the school’s programme of co-curricular activities
- Other duties reasonable to assist in the smooth operation of the library
