Job description

The Corporate Credit Headand Risk Management Country Officer (RMCO) for the India sub-cluster will manage a large local corporate, financial services and public sector portfolio across India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The candidate will have direct approval and ongoing monitoring responsibilities for the complex Corporate Credit portfolio in the sub-cluster, as also for the concentrated Government exposures. As the India RMCO, the candidate will manage all franchise risks including credit, market and liquidity, operational, reputational and regulatory risks. In partnership with the CCO, his role is to keep the franchise safe and sound, avoid any unexpected losses, liaise with Reserve Bank of India for all risk matters, and ensure full compliance with local regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities:

  • Holistic Franchise Level Risk Management : Manage all franchise level risks across businesses, products and functions (credit, market and liquidity, operations, franchise, reputational and others Identify and co-champion cross sector/product utilities to deliver synergies and improve quality of Risk Management support to the franchise. Coordinate identification, sharing and vetting of common risk concerns and sensitivities and develop coordinated solutions by connecting the dots as appropriate.

    Credit analysis and Approval: Reviewing and approving credit memos/credit committee proposals for local corporates and public sector - including the Government across India; Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, in his capacity as Risk SCO2. Analysis will include meeting clients, assessment of the business and underlying industry, the financial performance, due diligence of financial projections and valuation, as also appropriateness of risk ratings.

    Portfolio Management activities: Managing overall portfolio activities including periodic assessment of performance of obligors, ongoing monitoring of tripwires/triggers/covenants, review of classification memos, stress tests and portfolio level risk reporting and monitoring. Reviews of the portfolio to be conducted as required with seniors like WCR Corporate Credit Head, South Asia Cluster Risk Head, Public Sector Portfolio Head, and the Country CCO. Co-ordination of the annual Country Risk Committee review held with the Citi CRO for all limit setting for the country.

    Policy/Regulatory Work : Single-point contact for all risk matters with the Reserve Bank of India. Managing all local regulatory governance matters and Risk policies from a risk perspective, interactions and interface with the regulators, ad-hoc submissions, ICAAP and IFRS9. Direct ownership for critical risk projects like NPA and SMA automation and EW Systems, and oversight over DART regulatory data submissions and automation projects.

    Partnerships : Build deep partnerships with a range of senior management, including the CCO, Country Business/Product Heads, key country functions, and senior partners across Risk stripes. Regular interaction with FCR and IA teams to provide them with necessary information as also implement action items pertaining to ICG Risk and the franchise.

    Leadership : Directly manage a team of over 10 Risk officers, including Risk SCOs and Senior Approvers. Responsible for the overall team of 40-45 independent risk officers across the franchise. As the senior-most Risk officer in the country, oversight of the the India Risk CSCs through the Risk CSC Lead.


Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in Risk Management; should be a WCR Business/Risk SCO2 or equivalent
  • Experience in people management and leadership roles managing senior teams, and interacting with country CCO/senior management
  • In-depth knowledge of underlying industries and Indian/emerging market economic environment, and Citi Risk policies
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication to influence and negotiate with a wide range of audiences
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented, to manage complex regulatory projects cutting across the franchise and involving deep understanding of the underlying processes and technology.


Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred; managerial experience
