Role Definition
Manages multiple complex or value stream tooling, Jigs and Fixture Design projects involving multiple functions, organizations, products, tool rooms or value chains.
Responsibilities
• Develop and sustain the technical competencies improvement initiatives for the tooling, Jigs and Fixture Design team.
• Identify the technical training needs related to tooling, jigs and Fixture Design and manufacturing for the team and coordinate with internal and external training teams / agencies to conduct trainings as needed.
• Owns the design review process for the projects handled by tooling and Fixture Design team.
• Champion the technology adoptions related to manufacturing domain and Fixture Design.
• Develop project scope to address business challenges and opportunities.
• Coordinating resources across the businesses with purchasing, sales and marketing, product development groups, value chain and manufacturing.
• Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.
• Directing project staffing; motivating and developing Project Team and team members.
• The incumbent acts as an individual contributor, bringing technical expertise to the tooling, jigs & Fixture projects as well. The incumbent needs to coach and facilitate the development of the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, with Caterpillar manufacturing facilities, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved. Program/project management skills and organizational skills are critical.
• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Design or Materials Science curriculum with 15+ years of previous experience or a master’s degree in an Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum with 12+ years of previous experience or a doctorate degree in Engineering with 5+ years of previous experience.
