About the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources
The Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) drives Australia’s economic growth, productivity and competitiveness. The Department:

  • supports growth and investment in Australia’s mineral and energy resources, critical minerals and Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sectors.
  • hosts the Australian Space Agency, which supports the growth of Australia’s commercial space industry in line with the Australian Civil Space Strategy 2019-2028.
  • leads development of domestic strategies underpinning the responsible design, development and deployment of critical and emerging technologies like quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence.
  • seeks to build a strong and internationally-relevant Science and innovation ecosystem, which supports Australian researchers and innovators to scale and commercialise. We support scientific and research collaboration in areas of shared interest through the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF), Australia’s oldest and largest fund dedicated to bilateral science collaboration.

The Department’s team of five in India (one Counsellor and two locally engaged staff [LES] in New Delhi, one Counsellor and one LES in Bengaluru) will work together and across Post to support these objectives and represent our broad portfolio interests in India. The Department’s team at the Australian High Commission also has carriage of energy and climate change matters. Further information on the department can be found at www.industry.gov.au.
About the Position
The Australian Government has recently opened a new consulate-general in Bengaluru in recognition of Australia and India’s deep economic and other ties and Bengaluru’s digital economy, innovation and technology ecosystem.
Working under limited direction, with autonomy and accountability, the Senior Policy Officer supports the Counsellor and others to grow Australia’s science, technology, space and industry links with India. The position will work on expanding our footprint and influence in India and deepen ties between our two countries. The Senior Policy Officer will also work flexibly and collaboratively with the rest of the DISR team based in New Delhi. This position may be required to travel for work purposes and work outside of normal business hours as required.
