Department Manager Positioning Software

Job Description

Your role:

As a technical Department Manager, you are responsible for the quality and output of the team, talent management, way of working and continuous improvement. You lead and manage the teams within the allocated budget, on time and with the highest level of quality. The work is based on a product and technology roadmap, covering studies, new product introductions, product maintenance activities and advanced field support.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Leads a software department of approximately 15-20 engineers located in Bangalore

  • Defines group composition including required competencies, resources and skills

  • Manages relationships with stakeholders, especially in the Bangalore and The Netherlands ecosystems, optimizing inflow and outflow of work for the team.

  • Ensures successful introduction and sustaining of high quality, maintainable, serviceable, and reliable software products

  • Drives the technology roadmaps for the team

  • Defines and executes improvement activities

Your team

In this software leadership role, you will lead the Positioning Software team in Bangalore, in total around 15 highly educated (Bachelor, Master, PhD) software designers and testers. This team is responsible for parts of the mechatronics software of our minimal invasive systems. To lead this team you need to understand (Agile) software development and high performance real time C++. We look for strong technical leaders that understand and have used model-based development techniques. Your team will be working in a SAFe (Agile) set-up and will be part of the Positioning Agile Release Train.

You are a part of the leadership team of the Mechatronics Development Cluster (MDC) of the Business IGT Systems within Philips, spread out over The Netherlands, India, and China. This business is responsible for marketing, development, and manufacturing of X-ray systems in the area of cardiac and vascular medical diagnosis and intervention (e.g. balloon angioplasty and stent procedures). Customers are interventional specialists, in the cardiology and radiology domain operating in hospitals across the globe.


You're the right fit if:

  • Master degree or better in software engineering

  • Several years of experience in leading a team, in an Agile SW environment

  • Several years of experience in a medical regulated environment, testing, and quality assurance is a plus

  • Several years of experience in a mechatronics environment is as plus

  • Knowledge and experience of international standards (e.g. FDA regulatory, IEC 62304, IEC60601, ISO13485, ISO14971) is a plus

  • Abstract, analytical and creative thinker with helicopter view. You drive (out-of-the-box) solutions to complex problems

  • Is communicative, a good listener, and is able to give good presentations to various levels in the organization

  • Experience with working cross-country (preferably working together with Netherlands)

  • Has an improvement attitude, is a leader by leading through example

  • Organizational talent and ready to take responsibility

  • Communicative in all layers of the organization, orally and in writing; fluent in English, written and verbal
