About the team:
The Legal function at ByteDance India comprises a lean team of high caliber individuals. The mission of this team is to help ensure growth of ByteDance business in the South Asia region. The team also supports cross functional collaboration in areas such as policy, corporate governance, privacy and finance. As a closely knit team, we aim to develop individual members into general corporate advisory and at the same time give them exposure to specialized legal expertise across this region.
We are looking for an individual to join us and focus on Content Compliance Counsel. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, we are looking to bolster our mechanisms to boost our compliance with the applicable laws and policies.
The individual needs to have a strong understanding of South Asia's tech policy and legal landscape to assess laws and policies that will impact our business from a Content Compliance perspective. In particular, deep understanding of content regulations prevalent in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and India.

Responsibilities:
- Support Trust & Safety in content policies, content takedown and Law Enforcement operations in South Asia
- Creation of content takedown policies and content frameworks for our business functions in South Asia, in particular Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal
- Undertake due diligence, identify business risks with regard to compliance operations proactively, and create processes to deal with the same
- Lead Content Compliance initiatives to ensure business and risk teams operate in accordance with the compliance framework.
- Oversee and monitor Content Compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Work closely and creatively with cross functional teams, including Legal and Policy
- Manage effective relationships, including on matters of compliance, with key government agencies and regulators in close collaboration with internal teams.
- Provide compliance support and guidance to the internal teams coordinating with government and law enforcement agencies and handling user grievances.
- Stay abreast of key issues, emerging trends, and the effectiveness of compliance processes in place within the organisation.
- Willingness to work off hours and over time, including weekends and occasionally on holidays, in order to support emergency situations.
- Qualified lawyer with at least 7+ years of experience regarding relevant compliance matters
- Prior experience in Content Compliance
- Expertise in applicable laws and regulations to online platforms, internet safety issues, user privacy, and content regulation is ideal
- Language proficiency in both English and Bengali is essential for this role.
