What you’ll do,

Cloud Services platform is responsible for delivering our cloud infrastructure, the tools needed to build the Group’s cloud capabilities, and providing all on-demand cloud services designed to provide flexible, automated access to applications and cloud resources.

Our Cloud Engineering team is looking for an experienced and passionate Devops Engineer with strong hands-on development experience. As a Devops Engineer you’ll be an active and leading member of a cloud-focused team of engineers – working on one of the Group’s flagship projects to deliver a strategic platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) that will enable the business to realize the next generation of services that form the Bank’s vision for 2020 and beyond!

The role will have end-to-end accountabilities including:

  • Shaping Google and other cloud-technology roadmaps
  • Finding opportunities & use-cases for new features and cloud-based products
  • Collaboratively working with the business and other engineering teams to design then build and release enterprise-class solutions that progress the program’s roadmap.

The role will require you to be ‘hands-on’ and will blend both deep domain and technical expertise within the Cloud topics.

What you’d get involved with:

  • Driving identification of opportunities for and delivery of enterprise-class automated solutions
  • Identifies shortcomings and opportunities, including use cases for new features and cloud products, then suggests and implements improvements to existing business practices.
  • Analyses and evaluates the feasibility/relevance of proposals for complex products/services, then develops and amends as necessary.
  • Hands on experience building, configuring, and optimizing GCP based networking at scale. This should include workloads that utilise GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud SQL, Storage buckets etc. Coupled with corresponding ancillary function such as identity and networking requirements (Dedicated Interconnect, VPC peering, cloud Routers, Firewalls, Google DNS, Cloud NAT, IAM and VPC SC, ..)
  • Hands on experience on network projects in the areas of network sustaining engineering, network deployment/implementation, network scaling, technology refresh, best practices application, and/or network optimization.
  • Build, test, deploy, and automate stable/scalable services for the internal engineering team and end users.
  • Experience of DevOps concepts and deploying CI/CD pipelines using cloud native and third-party tooling – Git, Hashicorp Vault, Terraform, Ansible.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve system level scale, performance, and automation problems.
  • Checking in code to GitHub repositories and performing code reviews for your fellow team members.
  • You will be responsible for the development, deployment and hand-over to the end users of the solutions developed within the team.
  • Ensuring these solutions meet our Control and Security requirements and help improve the stability of our platform yet allowing higher volume of changes and activity. `
  • Adopting and promoting best practices within the larger team and organization

What you’ll need,
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineer role. Mix of consumer technology and SaaS technology is ideal.
  • Working and maintaining production grade GCP cloud networking.
  • Experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data centre and/or WAN network environments.
  • Ability to closely work with our Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, as well as assist with deployment and sustaining of networking software tools.
  • Working with and maintaining production experience with Kubernetes deployments and services.
  • Built out continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.
  • Able to write Bash and/or Python scripts.
  • Ability to own and be responsible for the projects you will be working on.
  • Able to write Infrastructure as a code (IaC)
  • Able to curate product lifecycle around cloud core services.
  • GCP Professional Cloud Engineer (Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer; Professional Cloud Network Engineer; Professional Cloud Security Engineer)
  • Recent experience designing and delivering hybrid-cloud platforms and services, automated API-driven systems with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and agile delivery models.
  • Able to follow and iteratively improve domain-owned services as GCP and other cloud-based products mature + develop new features where other emerging technologies present an opportunity.
  • Ability to work with architectural, business and other engineering leads to shape, design and engineer solutions.
  • Ability to work with a team of engineers to deliver domain-owned deliverables and dependencies.
  • Continuous curiosity to learn and develop themselves with industry best practice methods and tooling in the cloud function.
  • Technology agnostic and are willing to adapt their approach in pursuit of the best solution.

Nice to-have skills:

  • Experience working with GCP/Azure cloud infrastructure and their various services.
  • Fluent in Terraform and writing Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Fluent in Python and Go, with understating of API management.
  • Experience working with OpenVPN / Remote Access, Squid / Egress Proxy, IP Management, SMTP / Mail gateway, SMEE / Webhook Delivery.
  • Experience and thorough understanding of the Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with high-traffic monitoring systems. Implementing logging (Grafana/Prometheus), telemetry (New Relic), and tracing is ideal.
  • Excellent eye for security and creating bulletproof secure systems.
  • Excellent and effective verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable with fast-paced change: ability to demonstrate comfort with ambiguity, adapt quickly and be effective in new situations in a highly dynamic setting.
  • Data-driven but also imaginative and intuitive in coming up with ideas and solutions.
  • Proven ability to balance multiple priorities in a collaborative team environment.
