Job Title: Associate Dean for the School of Modern Media
Job Summary: The Associate Dean for the School of Modern Media plays a pivotal role in providing strategic leadership and direction for academic programs and initiatives within the School of Modern Media. This position involves overseeing curriculum development, faculty recruitment and development, student affairs, and fostering partnerships within the media industry. The Associate Dean works closely with the Dean to advance the mission of the school and ensure its academic excellence, innovation, and relevance in the rapidly evolving field of modern media.
Responsibilities:
Academic Leadership:
- Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and assessment of academic programs within the School of Modern Media.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure curriculum alignment with industry trends, technological advancements, and academic standards.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and integration within the school and across other departments or schools.
Faculty Development and Management:
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty members to maintain a high level of teaching excellence and scholarship.
- Support faculty in their professional development endeavors, including research, creative work, and pedagogical innovation.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and equity among faculty and staff.
Student Affairs:
- Oversee student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives within the School of Modern Media.
- Provide guidance and support to students regarding academic planning, career development, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Address student concerns and ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment.
External Partnerships and Engagement:
- Cultivate and maintain partnerships with industry stakeholders, media organizations, alumni, and other external entities.
- Identify opportunities for internships, industry collaborations, and guest lectures to enhance students' learning experiences.
- Represent the School of Modern Media in relevant professional associations, conferences, and events.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Work collaboratively with the Dean and administrative staff to develop and manage the school's budget and resources effectively.
- Allocate resources to support academic programs, faculty research, student activities, and facilities maintenance.
Strategic Planning and Assessment:
- Contribute to the strategic planning process for the school, including setting goals, objectives, and performance metrics.
- Conduct regular assessments of academic programs, faculty productivity, and student learning outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- A terminal degree (Ph.D., or equivalent) in a relevant field of study within modern media, such as journalism, communication, digital media, film, or related disciplines.
- Significant experience in higher education administration, preferably in a leadership role within a media-related academic unit.
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of academic and administrative functions.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in modern media and their implications for education and industry.
