Description
Job Title: Linux Administrator - Google Cloud
Job Summary:
The Linux Administrator on Google Cloud is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Linux-based systems and infrastructure on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role involves collaborating with other teams to ensure the stability, performance, and security of Linux environments. The Linux Administrator will also support application developers and DevOps teams in optimizing system performance and troubleshooting issues.
Key Responsibilities:
· GCP Infrastructure Management: Deploy, configure, and manage Linux-based virtual machines (VMs) on Google Cloud using Google Compute Engine (GCE).
· Performance Optimization: Analyze and tune Linux systems for optimal performance, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
· Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce security best practices, including managing access controls, firewalls, and monitoring systems for security breaches.
· Monitoring and Logging: Set up monitoring and logging solutions to proactively identify issues and respond to alerts promptly.
· Backup and Disaster Recovery: Establish backup and disaster recovery procedures for critical Linux-based systems and applications.
· Patch Management: Ensure timely application of security patches, system updates, and upgrades to keep the Linux infrastructure secure and up to date.
· Scripting and Automation: Develop scripts and automation workflows (e.g., using Bash, Python, or Ansible) to streamline routine tasks and improve efficiency.
· Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex Linux-related issues, collaborating with other teams as needed to identify root causes and implement solutions.
· Incident Response: Participate in incident response activities to address and mitigate system outages and security incidents.
· Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
· Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams, including DevOps, Networking, and Security, to ensure seamless integration and operations.
· Training and Knowledge Sharing: Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies related to Linux and Google Cloud, and share knowledge within the team.
Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
· Proven experience as a Linux Administrator in a cloud-based environment, preferably on Google Cloud Platform.
· Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, including CentOS, Ubuntu, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
· Familiarity with Google Cloud services, especially Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud Networking, and Cloud IAM.
· Solid understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls) and virtualization technologies.
· Experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible).
· Familiarity with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
· Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
