Position : Materials Science/Failure Analysis Engineer

Job Description:

• This role will be part of a cross-functional team concentrating on development,
• characterization, and failure analysis of next generation batteries, materials and products.
• The key responsibilities of the position are conducting sample preparation, operating
• analytical instruments and analyzing data under the direction of senior engineers.
• We are looking for someone who is innovative, has a material testing experience (e.g.,
• polymers, adhesives, plastics, etc) and has a willingness to dive deep into complex issues.
• The candidate must have experience with FTIR, Gas Chromatography – Mass
• Spectrometry (GC-MS), Ion Chromatography, TGA, DSC, etc.

Description:

• Conduct sample preparation for analysis by a variety of analytical techniques. The
• techniques may involve unit tear down, gas analysis from batteries, hardness testing of
• softer/harder materials, weighing materials on balances, water/solvent extractions,
• preparing solutions using scientific glassware, manipulating small objects under
• microscopes, etc.
• Hands on extensive experience with FTIR, Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry
• (GCMS), Ion Chromatography, TGA, DSC, light microscopy, digital microscopes
• Experience in organic molecules and materials
• Data analysis and reporting abilities (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Excel, PowerPoint)

Education/Experience:

• Hold a Ph.D. in science or engineering with knowledge of organic chemistry and analytical chemistry
• Have experience working in a lab setting
• Knowledge of safe lab practices
